SERT (The South East Radiotherapy Trust) is a volunteer driver service for cancer care in the South East of Ireland. We are a registered charity (CHY Number 22457) and provide safe, confidential and free transport for any radiotherapy patients travelling to/from UPMC Whitfield Cancer Centre in Waterford City. Registered Charity Number (RCN) 20204704.
No, all of our services are 100% free to radiotherapy patients.
Absolutely anyone that is undergoing radiotherapy in Whitfield Cancer Centre and lives in Waterford City/Clonmel/Dungarvan/Kilkenny/West Waterford/South Tipperary and the surrounding areas can avail of the SERT driver service.
Please request our services from your radiotherapy nurse at the hospital you attend - they will be able to refer you and arrange everything for you. Alternatively, you can call 087 123 0805 and ask to speak to the radiotherapy nurse directly.
Once you have been referred, your nurse will let you know what time your next appointment is. The nurse will also tell you what times you will be picked up and dropped back to your collection point. We take care of the rest for you!
The driver will simply have a list of names and addresses of people they have to collect - they are not given any personal information about you or your treatment.
Our vehicles can transport up eight patients at one time - depending on the service in your area you could be travelling with one companion or up to eight.
